Nail Tutorial: SHINee - Everybody

To follow the first music video review, here is the first nail tutorial that is inspired by the same video, Everybody by SHINee!

These are the designs I came up with based on the sets and costumes in the video.

Here are the following colours you will need, as well as what I used:
  • Green - Revlon's 'Minted'
  • Red - Revlon's 'Red Bikini'
  • Black -Revlon's 'Black Lingerie'
  • Blue - Claire's Chip Resistant Baby Blue Nail Polish
  • White - Rimmel London Nail Tip Whitener

First off, use a base coat to help protect your nails. This step is optional but I would recommend it.

Next, paint the thumb nail green, the ring fingernail red and the rest of the nails black as shown below.

Now, here are the step by step instructions for each nail.

Thumb

This was inspired by the lights from one of the sets which is shown below:

Step 1: Using the white nail polish, remove any excess nail polish from the brush with the side of the bottle before painting two lines from the top to the bottom of the nail.

Step 2: Use a toothpick or nail art pen to draw two thin lines down the middle of each white line with the black nail polish. The thumb nail is now complete.

Index Finger

This was inspired by the checked flooring from many clips of the music video.

Step 1: With a toothpick or nail art pen, draw a white line diagonally across the nail.

Step 2: Draw lines down and across like steps along the line just drawn.

Step 3: Do the same on the other side of the line and fill in the gaps as shown below:

Step 4: Draw in more stair-like lines on either side of the one just created to continue the checked look.

Step 5: Fill in the gaps once again and go over any parts you think could be improved in order for both the black and white to look like squares. Once you have finished the checked pattern is complete.

Index Finger

The design idea for this was taken from the large chess pieces included in the video.

Step 1: Draw a thin line near the tip of the nail, then add a semi circle onto it to make the base of the chess piece before adding a small square on top.

Step 2: From the square, draw a line upwards and then add a horizontal line slightly smaller than the base line on top of it.

Step 3: Draw two diagonal lines outwards before connecting them with another line. Fill in the gap and add a short vertical line towards the cuticle. The chess piece design is complete.

Ring Finger

This was inspired by Taemin's jacket, as it reminded me of feathers, as well as incorporating some of the red clips in the video as well.

Step 1: To create the feather, draw a black line across the nail.

Step 2: From the line you've just drawn, spread the polish outwards in small strokes with a toothpick to create a feathery effect. After that you have completed the design.

(sudden change in lighting o.o)

Pinky

Last but not least, the pinky. This is probably the simplest design out of the five. It was inspired by the lines of blue lights in this set:

Step 1: Draw two straight lines in blue; a bit like the white lines for the thumb but a lot thinner.

Step 2: Draw another two lines, one on either side of the central two in the same colour. Try to keep the thickness of the lines the same. Once you have finished, you have completed all of the nail designs!

If you want you can now add a clear top coat to keep the designs at their best, but be sure that the nail polish is completely dry as sometimes the colours may run when the top coat is added.

If any of you decide to paint your nails like this, I'd love to see all of your SHINee nails! Comment with your photos and I might be able to create a gallery page for all of your designs. I'm open to requests too! So feel free to give me some ideas to try out. Please don't use my photos unless you give me credit for them. If you do use them, let me know in the comments so that I know. Thanks for reading and checking this page out. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. :)

Music Video Review: SHINee - Everybody

So, the first video to be reviewed here is Everybody by SHINee! If you haven't watched the video already or if you want to watch it again, here it is:

SHINee have really worked hard this year! First with Dream Girl, then Why So Serious, Breaking News, Boys Meet U and now they're back with Everybody. Each and every comeback they have made comes with a new style, but still has the SHINee trademark. Even though this song has dupstep which isn't something SHINee is known for and some people may have preferred it without, it still has the great dance, the memorable chorus and the distinctive voices which I'm sure many people can't help but love. After all, SHINee is a contemporary group, meaning that their styles do change and they never have stuck to only one genre of music.

This song is basically about being immature (in a good way). It's about unleashing the inner child; having fun and taking off the "adult mask" as what seems to be shown at the start of the video where there is a boy wearing a white mask. If I'm right, it's probably implying that we are all like this. Made to act mature and grown up, when we are actually all children at heart no matter what age we are. Well, that's my take on the song. Others may think differently, but taking the music video and lyrics into consideration that is what I thought of.

The outfits that SHINee wear in this video don't have a lot of colour in it but they certainly don't look dull at all. Everything they wear helps them to stand out against the backdrops they are in. The clothes and backgrounds both add to the fun and playful vibe that the song gives.

The dance for this song also adds to the enjoyment of the video as it gives the feel-good attitude of wanting to get up and dance. I could see myself try to learn this dance in the near future.

Another thing I like about the dance is the interactions between the members. They aren't always lined up while all dancing the exact same moves, which makes it more interesting to watch. There are many occasions I could list in which this happens during the video, but I'm hoping that by watching it you will know what I mean. Just one example is when Minho goes to each member one by one, as if he is winding them up like a toy, and then they 'come to life' so to speak.

Overall, the music video's mission to have fun was accomplished! I can't think of anything wrong with this song. The English lyrics were fine, and as 'everybody' was the main word said in the chorus, it helps the song to be memorable as well as the catchy tune that goes along with it. The colours of the costumes and backdrops were simple, but bold and the dance was great and included teamwork which shown SHINee as a whole group instead of just five individuals dancing while standing near each other. Even though some people may say that it's not like the SHINee they are used to, it's a taste of one of the many styles that SHINee is open to, whether you like dubstep or not. Once again, they are a contemporary group who are not limited to one genre.

Feel free to let me know what you think! Do you agree or disagree? What did you like best about the video? What could be improved? You could also leave a rating out of ten on how good you think the video is. Whatever it is, I'll be happy to read and discuss it. Thanks for taking the time to read my review and I hope you enjoyed it. :)
